Community Revitalization

East Bay NHS has held a long-standing belief in initiating community revitalization efforts, in order to maximize the impact of communities across the East Bay. Healthy neighborhoods require not only affordable and attractive housing, but also entrepreneurial opportunities and neighborhood leadership, as well as innovative ways of addressing social issues within our communities.

In 2008, East Bay NHS consummated a collaborative effort with Greater Capital City Neighborhoods (GCCN) and ACCION. This partnership was formed to target one closely defined neighborhood in northern Contra Costa County, in order to initiate a Community Organization and Revitalization effort. This effort included community organizing to identify and engage neighborhood leaders, articulate shared outcomes that were desired in the neighborhood, and strategy development that would help achieve the projected outcome. This program also included an evaluation component that measured baseline conditions and changes over time.

GCCN assisted with our community revitalization efforts by extending their expertise of construction financing and general contracting; ACCION contributed by offering micro-business lending experience. These collaborative efforts with East Bay NHS enhanced neighborhood leadership and have continued to transform our communities' social problems into opportunities.
